On the road with Lucky 19
When the Lucky 19 crew isn't out selling sauce, we're out slinging meat at competitions throughout the country!
2014 (year one)
Victories in the backyard categories at several KCBS sanctioned events, street fests, rib comps, pro comps, you name it!
2015
We moved up to the "Pro" side of the KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society) and attended 5 competitions, finishing the year with our first top 10 call.
2016
We kept at it, working our way up in 10 contests and getting our first Reserve Grand Champ (2nd overall) out of 35 great teams at Minnetonka BBQ and Brew Fest! It was an amazing year, but we still have a lot to learn!
2017
Now we're getting serious! Attended 15 contests in a ever-widening territory. Finished in the top 10 overall out of the last 7 contests we attended! Took a shot at the Same's Club National BBQ Tour local in Woodbury, Minnesota. Finished 6th which allowed us to move on to regionals at Madison, Wisconsin, where we got our first Grand Championship win! That win qualified us for the nationals at the Sam's Club headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas where we were competing against THE BEST IN THE World in BBQ. Unfortunately, we got a little star struck and fell back to earth, finishing 40th out of the top 50 qualifiers in the country.
2018
Time for some new gear! Bought a new rig switched cookers and teamed up with our key sponsors, Whitewater Drum Smokers, Compart Duroc Pork (#thebestporkontheplanet) and JN Firewood. We made it to 17 contests, where we managed 6 top ten finishes, a Reserve Grand and a Grand Championship with at the annual SMSU Smokefest! Our GC got us an invited to the invetational at the biggest BBQ competition in the world - The American Royal in at Kansas City Speedway, where we went head to head with the top 164 teams in the world (yep, even international teams). We did well for our first trip, finishing 39th our of 164. Day two had 467 teams competing in the Open, where we finished in the top 3rd.
2019
Already 12 contests in, and more than halfway through our season! Had a slow start to the year, but we're heating up! We've placed in the top 10 at 5 of the last 7 contests and we earned another Grand Championship in June at Smokin' In Steele, Owatonna Minnesota. We hope to continue to see improvements through the end of the year, and we'll be gearing up for 2020 before you know it!
